Patented Dutch design — engineered for the life of the building

About Protector GuardrailProtector Guardrail

Protector Guardrail is built on a single conviction: roof safety must be engineered into the building, not managed around it. Designed in the Netherlands. Calculated to Eurocode. Built to outlast the maintenance cycles it protects.

Safety is non-negotiable and never subordinated to cost optimisation or short-term commercial gain.

How it started

Why working safely at height should be a fixed part of the building. And how we are building towards that.

Every year, people fall from roofs that were never built to be worked on safely.

That is the challenge we set out to solve. In 2020, the Dutch government mandated a permanent fall-protection solution that met both EU and national regulations – in theory, a simple ask. But the more roofs we looked at, the more we saw the same thing: buildings with no safe way to work on them; safety at height treated as an afterthought – added late, and in most cases non-compliant.

Temporary railings systems long past their expiry date, outside their compliance criteria, or never fully compliant to begin with. Hierarchy of controls principles incorrectly applied: line- and harness-based personal protection that depends entirely on people.

We thought: this can be better, and it must be better. A roof that is simply safe to work on – for everyone, every time, without anyone having to think about it. That is what we built.

What we believe

Working safely on a roof should never be a decision or a choice. Ours is automatic and assured. Protecting everyone, every time, without exception.

What we do

We make working on roofs structurally safe. For everyone

We design and supply permanent, ballast-borne roof-edge protection: collective fall protection on the structure of the building itself. No roof penetrations. No drilling. And no dependence on someone getting everything right under pressure.

For us, safety is not a procedure – it is engineered, calculated, and built to last the full lifespan of the building. One installation, and the roof stays safe for everyone who sets foot on it: the solar installer, the fitter, the inspector, the maintenance crew. Automatically. Always.

Where we are headed

More and more buildings now carry something on the roof that needs maintenance – solar panels, heat pumps, HVAC, roof maintenance. And behind each of those installations is someone who, sooner or later, walks towards the roof edge. We believe those people are entitled to work on a roof that is safe by design, not by improvisation.

One day, every roof in Europe will come standard with permanent collective roof-edge protection.

That is the future we are building towards: not the exception, but the standard.

Who we are

A small team with a long memory

What began as a single engineering project has grown into a patented, ballast-borne collective roof-edge protection system – built by a team of roof- and building-safety at height specialists with more than 35 years of combined experience in fall protection. That experience shines through in everything we make: considered, calculated, and built to last.

Our roots run deep in European safety legislation. Since the European Framework Directive (89/391/EEC), working safely at height is no longer optional – it is the responsibility of the building owner. We translate that responsibility into something physical and lasting.

And we do not just follow the standards – we help write them. We take an active part in the European standards committees within CEN, contributing to the norms that shape our whole industry.

What we stand for

Five things we will not compromise on

Permanent

We build for the full lifespan of the building. No temporary measures, no recurring costs – one installation, and it is sorted for good.

Structural

For us, safety is an engineering question, not a behavioural one. Every system is calculated, documented, and verifiable to the Eurocodes – EN 1990, EN 1991, and EN ISO 14122‑3.

Compliant

Every system ships with the full technical package: calculations, drawings, and conformity documentation. So you can demonstrate at any moment that your rooftop safety meets European legislation and standards.

Sustainable

Our product is made from recycled high-grade aluminium and designed for reuse, repair, and reinstallation. It supports your CSRD reporting and EU Taxonomy goals for sustainable building components.

Reliable

We do what we promise. From first contact through installation and aftercare, customers and installers can count on us. Trust is earned by being there, time after time.

Three principles that drive every decision

Engineering first

Safety is not procedural — it is engineered. Calculation documentation and structural assessments are documented and verifiable. No assumptions. No approximations.

European manufacturing partners

Collaboration with European manufacturing partners operating to high standards for working conditions, environmental compliance, quality assurance and regulatory alignment.

Transparency & governance

Governance structures prioritise transparency, accountability and long-term value creation. Safety is non-negotiable and never subordinated to cost management.

Sustainability integrated. Not compromised

Protector Guardrail is designed in alignment with European sustainability frameworks and ESG objectives. The system is manufactured from recycled aluminium and engineered for the full circular lifecycle.

Material & manufacturing

Recycled EU aluminium

Manufactured from recycled aluminium with a corrosion-resistant finish for long-term durability in exposed roof environments. Thermally treated for maximum corrosion resistance, including in coastal areas.

Circular design

Designed for the full circular lifecycle

The system is engineered for reuse, repair, component replacement and reinstallation. 100% recyclable at end of service life.

Ballast & embodied carbon

Reusable ballast configuration

The ballasted design allows reuse of existing roof finishes or locally sourced ballast, reducing the embodied carbon of new concrete production.

Lifecycle performance

Durability reduces Scope 3 emissions

A design life of 50 years extends lifecycle performance, reduces material throughput and lowers Scope 3 emissions related to maintenance and replacement. Sustainability integrated without compromising structural performance.

Designed to protect. Built to last.

Protector Guardrail establishes roof safety as a permanent architectural and structural building element — not a temporary compliance measure. Designed in the Netherlands and engineered within the European structural framework, the system combines reliability, durability and responsible material use to support safe maintenance throughout the full building lifecycle.
